Memorial Day Reminders

Michiana Residents,

I wanted to send along some reminders as Memorial Day approaches.

Fireworks are legal the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. ET.  Fireworks are only legal on private property.  They are not allowed to be set off on Village property, which includes the beach.  Renters are not allowed to set off fireworks on any date/time.

Please do not allow friends/family/renters to operate a golf cart if they are under 16 years of age.  They must be a licensed driver to operate a golf cart on Village streets.  This has been a recurring problem and a citation will be issued, if warranted.

We normally see an uptick in thefts from vehicles this time of year, please lock your vehicles and take any valuables inside.

If you see anything suspicious or need police assistance, always call 911.  If you have something that you don't feel rises to the need of 911 but would still like to get a hold of us please call dispatch at 866-630-7679 (please store that number in your cell phone).

Please mark your calendars for June 24th from 12-2PMET for our second annual Coffee with a Cop.  This is an informal gathering that allows officers and Village residents a chance to interact and share issues/solutions.  It will be held at the Village Hall.

The Village is also hosting a CPR/AED Class, please see details below.

Date: Sat 6/24/2023

Times: 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern Time (followed afterwards with our annual Coffee with a Cop event from 12:00 until 2:00)

Registration Fee: $70.00 (No fee for Coffee with a Cop!)

Seminar Overview: The course provides training for anyone who wants to learn basic CPR, use of an AED, and obtain a Heartsaver course completion card. The class includes information on adult and child CPR, AED use (adult/child), choking (adult/child), using a mask or barrier device, phoning for help, and optional modules in infant CPR and choking.

Audience:

The course is designed for residents to be trained as first responders to a first aid or cardiac emergency.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose.
