| Moorpark, CA – The Moorpark Police Department conducted a Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoint on Friday, May 26, 2023. The checkpoint was held in the westbound lanes of Tierra Rejada Road near Mountain Trail Court, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. During the checkpoint, 392 drivers were screened, resulting in one arrest for DUI and one warrant arrest. Six drivers were issued citations for driving without a license or having a suspended license, and one citation was issued to a driver for other offenses. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the monetary impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and possible jail time. The Moorpark Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescriptions drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label can cause impairment and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also cause impairment, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs. The Moorpark Police Department will be conducting another Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoint in the future, in our ongoing commitment to take impaired drivers off our roadways. Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoints aid in lowering risks caused by impaired or unlicensed drivers and helps to promote safety for those traveling on our streets and highways. Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in association with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
