Boat Catches Fire at the Colorado River and Three Occupants Rescued

SUMMARY: On Saturday, May 27, 2023, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Marine Enforcement Unit along with Mohave County Sheriff's boating officers responded to a report of a boat fire on the Colorado River near the Palms River Resort in Needles, CA.
The boat caught fire and sank prior to law enforcement arrival. The three occupants aboard the boat were pulled from the water and medical aid was provided by Baker Ambulance service at the scene.
The San Bernarino County Sheriff's air rescue ship arrived on scene and transported one victim to a nearby hospital. A second victim was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital and later flown to a trauma center in Las Vegas. An infant aboard the vessel was also taken to a local hospital and later released.
The ignition source of the boat fire is unknown. The vessel was recovered from the Colorado River with the assistance of Tow Boat US.
