ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Castro was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters and issued an appearance ticket requiring him to appear in court at a later date.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On March 23rd 2023 Amsterdam Police were advised of a possible fraud committed regarding property owned within the City of Amsterdam. After further investigation probable cause was determined that Castro had falsified several official documents related to the sale and transfer of a property that he owned in the fifth ward of Amsterdam during the fall of 2022.
On May 26th an arrest warrant was issued by Amsterdam City Court for Jose E. Castro. On the advice of private counsel Castro turned himself in at police headquarters to be processed on the above charges.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond in this investigation, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
