ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Burgos was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters and issued an appearance ticket requiring her to reappear in city court at a later date.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On May 24th Amsterdam Police took a report of a stolen wallet. After further investigation it was determined that the wallet was dropped on a sidewalk on East Main Street in front of a local business. An Amsterdam Police officer responded to the business and was able to obtain surveillance footage of the incident. The surveillance footage showed a female suspect picking up the wallet from the sidewalk and leaving the area with it on her person. Through further investigation, the female suspect was later identified as Mabel Burgos. The following day the investigating officer followed up with Burgos who was transported voluntarily to Amsterdam Police headquarters for an interview. During the interview Burgos ultimately confessed to stealing the wallet including its contents. Burgos was placed under arrest and processed on the above charges.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
