PRESS RELEASE - ARMED SUSPECTS ARRESTED

PRESS RELEASE
MAY 31, 2023

On May 19, 2023, at 08:00 pm, the Culver City Police Department received a call for service regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred at the mall parking lot, located at 6000 Sepulveda Blvd.

Officers arrived on the scene and met with the victim, who explained that three suspects were following him as he exited from Sheikh Shoes.  While in the parking lot, the suspects asked him, “Where you from” and showed him a black handgun.  The victim continued walking, and the suspects began striking him with closed fists until he fell to the ground. Then, the suspects pulled jewelry from the victim’s neck, took his phone, and fled the scene.
Detectives immediately began to investigate the armed robbery and were able to obtain surveillance images of the three involved suspects. Additionally, Detectives were also able to obtain video surveillance of the suspects entering a White Lexus after committing the robbery. Through their investigation, Detectives were able to obtain a license plate to the suspect vehicle.  The license plate was placed into a state data base as a vehicle wanted in connection with the armed robbery.

On May 25th, the Upland Police Department was alerted of the vehicle’s presence through a license plate reader hit. Members of the Upland Police Department located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  The two occupants of the vehicle who were the same suspects depicted on video surveillance were taken into custody without incident.

Both adult subjects who were residents of the city of Los Angeles were arrested for robbery.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
