Flash Flood Warning until 07:15PM Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Curry County in east central New Mexico... De Baca County in east central New Mexico... Southern Quay County in east central New Mexico... Northwestern Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico...

* Until 715 PM MDT.

* At 524 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and spotter reports. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. At least 12 inches of water was reported moving over highway 252 about 2 miles north of Taiban. Expect localized areas of flash flooding on area roads.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Fort Sumner, Quay, Melrose, San Jon, Grady, House, Tolar, Taiban, Ragland, Saint Vrain, Sumner Lake, Ranchvale, Wheatland, Broadview, Yeso, Bellview, Mcalister, Forrest and Bard. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 352 and 369. Highway 285 between Mile Markers 164 and 171. Highway 60 between Mile Markers 302 and 369.

* AFFECTED AREAS: CURRY, NM ... DE BACA, NM ... QUAY, NM ... ROOSEVELT, NM

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
