Message From Chief Michael Biennas Regarding Recent Rise in Catalytic Converter Thefts in South Brunswick

In light of the recent report of South Brunswick experiencing 30 catalytic converter thefts in 10 days, I would like to remind all Monroe Township residents to remain vigilant and ask each member of our community to continue to report any suspicious activity.  This is a county and state issue.
Please note that while criminals have reportedly intensified their recent efforts in southern Middlesex County, the Monroe Township Police Department reports five (5) incidents of catalytic converter thefts from February 1 through May 31, 2023, with the last one being on April 24.
Here in Monroe, we have increased patrols and we are working with our neighboring towns and state law enforcement to bring these criminals to justice while deterring future crimes.  Earlier this year, Mayor Dalina and Municipal Council passed an ordinance to add municipal penalties to the existing state criminal changes --- for anyone who intentionally trespasses upon the land or property of any person for the purpose of tampering with or committing the theft, or unlawful taking, of a motor vehicle.
As always, if you see something suspicious, please call the Monroe Township Police Department immediately.  The non-emergency number is 732-521-0222.  Dial 911 if it is an emergency.
