Man charged with two counts of murder after fatal Pomona crash
At approximately 8:45 PM on Sunday, May 28, 2023, Pomona Police Dispatch was notified of a hit-and-run accident involving injuries on Garey Ave. just north of Bonita Ave. The responding officers discovered an overturned SUV with all three individuals inside the vehicle unable to exit. The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene and transferred the critically injured female passenger to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the driver and front passenger of the victim vehicle were pronounced deceased on-scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Initially, officers were unable to locate the individual responsible for the collision when it occurred. However, on Monday, May 29, officers successfully identified and apprehended the suspect involved in the tragic incident. The suspect was identified as an 18-year-old Pomona resident named Erik Elias Perez. Perez was booked into the Pomona City Jail.
On Wednesday, May 31, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges:
187 PC – Murder (2 Counts)
20001(b)(2) CVC – Hit and Run resulting in Death (1 Count)
10851(a) CVC – GTA
23103 (a) CVC – Reckless Driving
Perez’s bail was set at $4,075,000. The Pomona Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the collision. No other information will be provided at this time.
