On June 1, 2023 at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Gilroy/Morgan Hill SWAT team conducted a search warrant on the 9000 block of Ridgeway Drive in Gilroy, CA. During the search, 46 year old Arturo Lara, a Gilroy resident, was arrested for charges associated to a shooting that occurred in February.
On February 24, 2023 at about 10:00 p.m., Gilroy Police Officers were called to meet a victim on the 8400 block of Wayland Lane. The victim reported being involved in a minor vehicle collision on Leavesley Road and Monterey Street. The driver of the other involved vehicle refused to stop to exchange insurance information. The victim followed the suspect through different areas of the City, until the suspect eventually stopped. When the victim pulled over, the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds at the victim. The victim was not struck despite being seated in the vehicle. The vehicle was struck several times. The victim was fortunately not injured during the incident. As a result of this investigation, Gilroy Police Detectives were able to identify a suspect, which led police to the residence on Ridgeway Drive.
During the search, numerous unregistered firearms and ammunition were seized, to include multiple “ghost guns (un-serialized firearms),” high-powered rifles, and high-capacity magazines.
Lara was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for attempted murder and weapons related charges.
Based on the investigation, Detectives do not believe there are any suspects outstanding.
