On Friday, June 2, 2023, at approximately 12:29 am, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department were dispatched to Petaluma Blvd South at Crystal Lane to a report of a solo vehicle collision. Officers arrived on scene and were informed a vehicle had collided into the roundabout. The collision caused damage to a light pole causing it to collapse. Officers contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Eric Miller. Miller displayed objective signs of alcohol impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Prior to being transported to the Sonoma County Jail, Miller completed evidentiary breath tests which indicated his blood alcohol content was .23 and .23% BAC, over two times the legal limit.
The Petaluma Police Department has been committed to increasing traffic safety and especially reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions. Petaluma Police advise motorist to plan ahead if you’re going to go out and drink alcohol, designate a sober driver or share a ride. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
