Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Motorcycle
On Friday, June 2, 2023 at approximately 1:33 PM Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the intersection of Black Horse Pike (Rt. 168) at Brewer Avenue for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and SUV.
Arriving officers located the driver of the motorcycle laying in the roadway, unresponsive, and began life saving efforts including CPR. Inspira EMS & Ground Transport , Virtua ALS and Gloucester Twp. Squad 88 arrived to take over lifesaving efforts, however ultimately the motorcyclist was pronounced at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle involved suffered minor injuries where she was treated at the scene and refused medical transport.
Officers assigned to the Gloucester Township Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) arrived to conduct an investigation. During the initial phases of the investigation the Black Horse Pike was shut down for approximately two and a half hours with the assistance of New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on the Black Horse Pike when the driver of a gold colored Ford Escape pulled out in front of the motorcycle from Brewer Avenue to make a left hand turn Northbound onto the Black Horse Pike. It appears the driver of the motorcycle attempted to avoid the collision, but ultimately was unable to stop. This crash remains under investigation and there are no charges at this time.
Unfortunately, this crash comes as we just concluded Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month where we were reminded to yield to motorcyclists at intersections, be alert because they are smaller and often more difficult to see, and that the operator still has the same rights of the road as any other motorist.
