Wilmington Police host another steering wheel lock giveaway for owners of Hyundai and Kia vehicles affected by theft trend:

As the theft trend targeting multiple Hyundai and Kia models continues in Wilmington and throughout our region, the Wilmington Police Department is organizing another steering wheel lock giveaway for City residents who own affected vehicles.

Wheel locks will be distributed on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot of the Police Athletic League of Wilmington (3707 North Market Street). This is a first-come, first-served distribution and wheel locks will be distributed by members of our Community Engagement Unit while supplies last.

To be eligible to receive a wheel lock device, you must be a resident of the City of Wilmington. Those eligible must arrive in their vehicle affected by this trend. Vehicles must be a 2011 to 2021 Hyundai or Kia model with a key start ignition, which has not received the anti-theft software upgrade from the manufacturer.

A limited number of these wheel locks have been provided to the Wilmington Police Department, as well as some of our partner agencies, by Hyundai Motor America.

Owners of affected Hyundai vehicles can also learn more at https://www.hyundaiantitheft.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwmZejBhC_ARIsAGhCqnd2MWnIFkASKCP8awX5vHRUWCbqyuq9cVQeR8epHRJyXxHHjRQdSJcaAindEALw_wcB, including options for reimbursement for vehicle owners who have already purchased a steering wheel lock.

Those with questions about this initiative can contact Cpl. Daniel Rice at (302) 576-3618 or [email protected].
