On Wednesday morning May 31st a Harper Woods High School staff member located a student who was concealing a handgun in their backpack. Once the staff member located the handgun, the student was able to flee on foot with the handgun out of the school and off school property.
Within hours of the incident occurrring, Harper Woods Police Detectives located and arrested the 16 year old male student at his residence in the City of Detroit. Detectives also located and recovered evidence associated to the case.
The juvenile male was placed in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Faciltiy and a charged with Felony Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Misdemeanor Weapon-Free Schools-Possessing a Weapon. The students name is not being released due to his juvenile status.
The Harper Woods Police Department maintains a zero tolerence position as it relates to weapons on school property.
