⭐️⭐️⭐️June we celebrate Internet Safety Month⭐️⭐️⭐️
With summer right around the corner, and kids spending more time online, it's a great time to review online behavior and learn how kids can stay safer while using the internet. There are lots of good reasons for kids to be online, but risks such as online enticement, sextortion, and cyberbullying are more prevalent than ever. To help combat these issues, we encourage you and your family to use these free safety materials and resources available from NCMEC.
In 2022, NCMEC saw an 82% increase in reports concerning online enticement. Our Cyber Tip line received nearly 32 million reports related to suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Unfortunately, we continue to see CSAM evolving, often becoming more egregious; but we are constantly fighting to protect children and prevent further victimization.
Our online safety education program NetSmartz provides age-appropriate videos and activities to help teach children how to become more aware of potential online risks. NCMEC also recently launched our newest groundbreaking platform, aptly named Take It Down, which allows users from around the world to submit a report to help remove nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit photos and videos depicting a child under 18 years old from participating electronic service providers.
We hope you will feel free to use or share any of our platforms or resources with friends, family, and colleagues. The ROPD would like to thank the NCMEC for sharing this important information.
