IMPD Arrests Four Suspects and Recovered Three Firearms in Broad Ripple During Proactive Detail
INDIANAPOLIS-On Saturday, June 4, 2023, just before 1:00 am, IMPD North District officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with four occupants in the 6300 block of Ferguson Street. Officers contacted the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Darrell Brown. During the traffic stop, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle.
Officers detained the four occupants of the vehicle. At the same time, investigating officers located a firearm in the backseat. Subsequently, officers found two more firearms inside the vehicle. Officers identified the other three occupants as 26-year-old Jermell Moore, 31-year-old Michael Smith, and 27-year-old Jon Johnson.
Brown was arrested for possession of marijuana and driving while suspended with a prior.
Moore was arrested for serious violent felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person, invasion of privacy, and false identity statement.
Smith was arrested for possessing a handgun by a prohibited person and possessing marijuana.
Johnson was arrested for possessing a handgun by a prohibited person and enhanced due to a prior felony within 15 years and possession of marijuana.
All alleged suspects were transported to the Marion County Criminal Justice Center.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will review the case and make a final charging decision.
A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
