On May 25, 2023, at 9:15 am, Culver City Police Officers responded to a call for service regarding a male subject who was robbed and was bleeding in the area of 5100 Block of Cota Street.

Officers met with the victim who advised him that a male suspect approached him in the La Ballona Creek, west of Overland Avenue, armed with a knife and demanded his phone. During the robbery, a struggle ensued over the victim’s phone.  During the struggle, the suspect swung the knife in the victim’s direction, stabbing him in the hand. The suspect then took the victim’s cell phone, got on a bicycle, and rode away, eastbound through the creek.  The Culver City Fire Department responded and treated the victim on scene for his non-life-threatening injuries. 

Detectives began their investigation and identified a 27-year-old male as being the suspect involved in the robbery. On June 2^nd, an alert patrol officer observed the suspect in the area of the La Ballona Creek and he was arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
