June 5, 2023 Death Investigation Update – Murder-Suicide

First, we would like to thank the Fremont community and our media partners for allowing us respectable time to collect, analyze and verify evidence before providing an update to what we believe occurred on Monday, June 5th

This tragic event unfolded Monday, June 5, 2023, in the afternoon shortly after 1:00 p.m., when officers and firefighters responded to the 40000 block of Inglewood Common to investigate the death of three people.  Upon arrival, officers discovered two young juveniles and their adult mother deceased within their apartment. The initial investigation leads detectives to believe this event was a murder-suicide and not committed at the hands of another.  Investigators located a knife from the scene, but we will wait for the results of the pending autopsy by the Alameda County Coroner and all investigative reports to be concluded before making an official determination of its relevance.

Sadly, for unknown reasons, a one-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl lost their lives yesterday, and their mother is believed to have taken her own life.

We ask our media partners to allow the father, husband, and his extended family to grieve, mourn, and process the event with privacy.  Out of respect for the family, the Fremont Police Department will not release or confirm the identity of the involved parties at this time.

“Our department offers our sincerest condolences for the family and friends impacted by this tragedy. Loss of life is always difficult, especially when the loss involves children. The family is in need of ongoing support and I thank our community for coming together during this difficult time,” stated Chief Sean Washington. “This was one of the most difficult calls for service that Fremont has experienced in recent years and many of our officers and firefighters are experiencing their own sense of loss and sorrow. As an organization, we will continue to thoroughly investigate this delicate case, while offering support and providing compassionate service.”
