Incident Summary:
 
On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at approximately 11:47 pm, an officer with the Petaluma Police Department made a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle yielded to the officer in the area of Lakeville Highway and Browns Lane. The officer contacted the driver, Jose Ricardo Rubio-Rivas (39, Santa Rosa) and a passenger, Daniel Anguiano-Rivas (32, Santa Rosa). A records check revealed Rubio-Rivas was on active Sonoma County Pretrial Release for a felony reckless evading charge. Due to the Rubio-Rivas’ Pretrial Release status, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search a loaded handgun was located under the passenger’s seat. A records check on the firearm revealed it was stolen out of Fresno.  
 
Rubio-Rivas and Anguiano-Rivas were both arrested on gun charges. Rubio-Rivas’ charges included committing a felony while on pretrial release, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a concealed firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and violation of probation. Anguiano-Rivas’ charges include possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition. Both Rubio-Rivas and Anguiano-Rivas were booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
