Police Seek Help Identifying Home Invasion Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with a home invasion that occurred on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

At approximately 4:20 a.m., a male victim invited the suspect, whom he had met on a dating website, to his home in the 200 block of Shephard Avenue. The suspect entered the apartment, left after visiting for only a few minutes, and returned shortly afterwards with two other suspects. The three suspects robbed and assaulted the victim, taking his wallet and other personal property.

Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in quickly identifying the first suspect (pictured). He is described as a Black male, 5'8" tall with a thin build, dark complexion, and a slight beard. He was wearing a black hat, a black and white jacket, and black and white sneakers.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
