The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from May 28th, to June 2nd.
 
May 28th
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – S. 56th St / Carlos Ave:
At 10:17 AM, an officer recovered a silver Kia Optima that was reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Ernest Ave / S 52nd St:
At 1:40 PM, an officer recovered a stolen black Land Rover reported stolen to the Richmond Police Department on 5/25/2023.

May 29th
 
Possess Controlled Substance – 10602 San Pablo Ave (Exxon):
At 7:49 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a man after he was found unresponsive in the driver seat of his vehicle.  The man was heavily intoxicated and was unable to definitively identify himself.  During a search of his person for identification, methamphetamine was recovered from his pocket.  AMR transported the man to Kaiser Richmond where he was fingerprinted and released.

Vandalism / Petty Theft – 100 block of Carmel Ave:
At 12:21 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect damaged the convertible top on the victim’s Mazda MX-5 to the tune of $1000 in an effort to enter the vehicle, before realizing the vehicle was unlocked.  The suspect stole items from the vehicle.  Occurred between midnight on 5/26 and 10:30 AM on 5/27/2023.

Grand Theft- 11048 San Pablo Ave (Harbor Freights):
At 6:10 PM, an officer reports two subjects exited the business with two carts full of merchandise.

Stolen Vehicle- 7500 block of Rockway Ave:
At 6:30 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle.

May 30th

Armed Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s)
At 3:08 PM the suspect entered the store and placed hygiene products in a garbage bag.  The suspect brandished a pair of scissors and threatened to stab the security guard.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Attempted Auto Theft – Stockton St / Elm Ave.
At 6:09 PM, the victim reported an unknown suspect attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight.

May 31st

Vandalism and Evading Police – 300 block of Pomona Ave.
At 7:14 AM officers responded to a subject attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.  When officers arrived they saw the suspect attempting to pry open the front door of the victim’s vehicle.  The suspect saw an officer and got into an awaiting vehicle and fled. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle, but due to its reckless driving, officers discontinued the pursuit.

Stolen Vehicle – 7200 block of A St.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen from 11:30 PM last night to 7:30 AM this morning.

Warrant Arrest / Possession of Narcotics / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Probation Violation – Schmidt Ln / Norvell St.
At 2:29 AM, a suspicious vehicle check was conducted and the driver was arrested for the above charges and transported to County jail.

Vehicle Tampering / Petty Theft / Possession of Burglary tools / Possession of Stolen Property / Parole Violation – 600 Block of Lexington Ave.
At 2:38 AM, officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the road.  As officers arrived on scene, the vehicle fled the area.  Officers later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  It was later determined the suspect stole items from the victim’s parked vehicle.  The suspect was arrested on the above charges and transported to County jail.

June 1st

Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketchers)
At 4:27 PM the suspect entered the store, stole miscellaneous items and fled on foot. 

June 2nd

Hit and Run / Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 800 block of S 55th St:  
At 10:26 AM, an officer recovered a 2019 Kia Optima after the suspect driver lost control of the vehicle and slid into the front yard of the residence.  The suspect was seen on camera as he fled on foot. The vehicle was reported stolen on 05/31 to the Oakland Police Department.

Theft by False Pretenses – 2600 block of Tuller Ave:
At 1:03 PM, an officer reports the victim was swindled out of $800 in a gift card telephone scam.  The suspect claimed to be an Xfinity employee helping the victim to lower her monthly bill.

Theft by False Pretenses – 900 block of Pomona Ave:
At 4:14 PM, an officer reports the victim was swindled out of $300 in Target gift cards via another Xfinity discount telephone scam.
