AMARILLO POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEDIA/PUBLIC RELEASE

DATE:   June 10, 2023
TIME:    9:00AM
CASE NUMBER:
INCIDENT TYPE: Flooded zone/area still closed
OFFICER SUBMITTING RELEASE: Sgt. Burr-PIO

DETAILS: The Amarillo Police want to remind the citizens of Amarillo the flooded areas and zones in the Western Plaza/Paramount area are still closed to the public.  There are barricades on many streets and while the water is receding, it is still dangerous for citizens to be in those areas. The city is working to get the water pumped out so that we can get citizens back into their homes and businesses.  The water is dangerous because of unknown depth and contaminants. Please don’t go in and if you have needs to get items, there is a way to do that for emergency items with a fire/police escort.

The emergency retrieval station is at Home Depot, 2410 S. Georgia. Citizens can go there and get help with emergency retrievals.
The Multi agency Resource Center is closed. If you need any services or resources due to being displaced by the flood, call 211.

If you go into the flooded zone unaccompanied, you could be fined, ticketed or arrested. We have patrols in this area 24/7. This area is closed temporarily for the safety of the community. As soon as we can safely reopen the area, we will let everyone know.  Please stay out unless it is an emergency.

This is an ongoing operation and our resources will be here to help until the end.  We continue to thank our community for their support and cooperation during this incident.
