IMPD Homicide Detectives Make Arrest in a Murder Investigation

On June 6, 2023, IMPD Homicide detectives sought charges of Involuntary Manslaughter for 44-year-old Rindell Williams, who was already in custody on unrelated charges, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Micheal Boyer. On Friday June 9, 2023, Williams was presented with the new charge of Involuntary Manslaughter.

On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 1:00 pm, IMPD North District officers were dispatched to W. 22nd St. & N. Illinois St., on a report of a person assaulted.  When officers arrived, they located an unconscious adult male, later identified as 44-year-old Boyer. Medics who were on-scene believed Boyer was unconscious as a result of intoxication.  He was transported to Methodist Hospital.  Later that day, officers were called to Methodist Hospital after medical staff found Boyer had multiple injuries.

Aggravated assault detectives initially investigated the incident.  During their investigation, an individual (Williams) identified himself to officers and spoke with detectives claiming responsibility for the injuries Boyer received.  Williams was released pending further investigation and a review by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Unfortunately, Boyer died on February 26,2023.  At this time, his death is believed to be a result of the trauma he received on February 20th.  Following his passing, IMPD Homicide detectives took over the investigation.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office assisted and determined the cause of death to be a homicide.
