This morning, June 20th, your Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety will participate in the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Our multi-agency team, which consists of Rohnert Park DPS, California Highway Patrol, Sebastopol Police Department, Cotati Police Department, and Sonoma State University Police, will carry the “Flame of Hope” from our area to Petaluma. This important multi-agency run is an annual campaign where law enforcement personnel (both sworn and civilian) raise money and awareness for Special Olympic athletes and the essential free programs offered by that organization. The Special Olympic Torch, carried by all agencies participating throughout the state this month, will be used to light the official flame at the Special Olympics Summer Games at the UC Davis campus on June 23-25 in Santa Clara.
Community members interested in cheering on your local first responder agencies today can find us leaving Mary’s Pizza Shack on Golf Course Way around 9 am and traveling down Commerce Boulevard to Old Redwood Highway until we meet Petaluma Police Department at Applebee’s. Thank you in advance for your support. If you pass the Torch Run participants on the road, feel free to give us a “honk of encouragement.”
