Anonymous WeTip Leads to Identification and Arrest of Fatal Hit and Run Suspect

Incident:         Fatal Hit & Run Traffic Collision

Suspect:       Roberto Mojo-Sanchez, 50-year-old, Resident of Colton
Victim:          (Deceased) Confidential pending next of kin notification.
Suspect Vehicle: 2006 Red Toyota Solara

 
UPDATED INFORMATION:
 
Through a continual, exhaustive investigation, the Rialto Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team identified a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred on June 12, 2023. On June 14, 2023, a community member provided information anonymously through WeTip which led to the identification of the suspect, 50-year-old Roberto Mojo-Sanchez resident of Colton. The suspect was located and taken into custody in the City of Riverside. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was later recovered from his family member’s residence in the City of San Bernardino. The involved vehicle was undergoing repairs for the damage resulting from the collision. Mojo-Sanchez was booked into West Valley Detention Center for CVC 20001(b)(1) – Hit and Run Causing Injury or Death with a bail set for $500,000.
 
The Rialto Police Department recognizes the importance of community support and continued partnership with WeTip. We want to thank the anonymous citizen who provided the information that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect in this investigation. 
 
ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:
 
On Monday, June 12, 2023, at approximately 11:15 p.m. officers responded to the 2500 block of South Riverside Avenue, for an unknown injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Officers arrived on scene at approximately 11:18 p.m. and discovered the involved vehicle had fled. Rialto Fire Department personnel arrived minutes later and pronounced the pedestrian deceased.
 
Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect was driving northbound in the #1 lane of Riverside Avenue approaching Santa Ana Avenue. The pedestrian was walking in lanes of traffic on Riverside Avenue. The suspect vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene prior to police arrival. It is believed the victim may have been struck by additional vehicles as well while lying in the roadway following the initial collision. Officers are continuing the investigation and believe the suspect vehicle to be a red sedan with collision damage to the front end. We are seeking the communities’ assistance with identifying the potential suspect(s).
