City of Malibu will discontinue using Nixle system. Malibu will continue using website alerts & Everbridge.
In an effort to streamline its emergency communications processes, the City has discontinued the Nixle alerting service, which the City has been using for several years for sending out advisories about lower-level emergencies, traffic incidents, utility outages, hazardous weather, and beach closures to the Malibu community.
The City will continue to use its website alert system when necessary for advisories about lower-level emergencies, traffic incidents, utility outages, hazardous weather, and beach closures by text and email to subscribers. To sign up for website alerts, or add or remove alert categories, visit www.MalibuCity.org/News and scroll to “Alert Center.”
The Nixle system has become redundant, since Nixle was bought by Everbridge, the system that the City uses for disaster notifications in case of major emergencies that pose an imminent threat to life and property, and evacuations. All Nixle subscribers have been merged into the Everbridge system, and will receive Everbridge alerts from the City in case of major emergencies. Eliminating the Nixle system will reduce the time and number of steps it takes to put out emergency messaging.
Most landline and cell phone numbers with Malibu addresses are automatically uploaded into the Everbridge system. However, residents, business owners, employees and other community members may create a profile in Everbridge to add additional contact information, such as secondary phone numbers by visiting www.MalibuCity.org/DisasterNotifications.
