Suspect: David Magana Garcia (37, Petaluma)
Charges: 245 (a)(1) PC
Incident Summary:
On June 15, 2023, at 7:13 pm, Petaluma Police Department officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North McDowell Blvd on report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect, later identified as David Garcia (37, Petaluma resident), had fled after the assault. As Garcia was fleeing, the victim was able to take a photo of Garcia’s vehicle which depicted his license plate. Officers contacted the victim who stated an argument ensued between him and Garcia. During the argument, Garcia pulled out a folding knife and at one point lunged towards the victim. The victim opened his car door in an attempt to shield himself from the knife.
During the investigation officers responded to Garcia’s residence and detained for the assault. The victim subsequently positively identified Garcia as the suspect.
Garcia was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the community members who helped the officers apprehend the suspect.
