Press Release - Vehicle Break-Ins & Residential Burglaries

June 16, 2023

From Chief of Police Matt Grochow

In the last two days, the Saint Peter Police Department responded to numerous break-ins of vehicles. In some cases, the windows of the vehicle were smashed when suspects had clear view of valuables left within the vehicle. These crimes of opportunities have occurred throughout the community and do not relate to one specific geographic area of St. Peter. The incidents have occurred in vehicles parked on the street and inside garages where garage doors were left open.

Additionally, whether or not this is determined to be related to the vehicle break-ins, last night and early this morning suspect(s) entered two occupied private residences after cutting window screens and crawling through the window. Suspect(s) walked throughout the entire home and stole money and jewelry. To prevent this happening to you or someone you love, I can’t stress enough how important it is to secure doors and windows at all times.

Numerous members of the St. Peter Police Department are actively investigating these crimes and we are asking for the public’s assistance in reviewing footage from any outside video cameras you may have installed on your property; specifically, during the time of 9:00 p.m. on June 15th through 4:00 a.m. on June 16th. Should you see something suspicious on the footage, or, if you saw something suspicious out your window last evening, please don’t hesitate to contact the Police Department at 507-931-1550. Thank you for helping us keep our City safe!
