Incident Summary:

On June 14, 2023, at 7:03 pm, Petaluma Police Department officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North McDowell Blvd on report of an assault that had just occurred.  The suspects had fled after the assault.  Officers contacted the juvenile victim who stated he was watching a soccer practice when three suspects approached him from behind.  The victim was grabbed and pulled backwards where he was repeatedly punched.  Multiple adult by-standers who were also watching the soccer practice intervened by pulling the suspects away from the victim.  During the altercation, a hand axe fell from one of the suspect’s pockets.  One of the suspects attempted to retrieve the axe from the ground prior to fleeing, however one of the adult by-standers kicked the axe away to prevent the suspect from grabbing it.  The suspects fled on foot in separate directions with two suspects fleeing northbound on Maria Drive and one suspect fleeing southbound on Maria Drive.

Witnesses said all three of the suspects were wearing black ski masks, with all black clothing.  All of the male suspects were described as being approximately 15-17 years old.  As of now, none of the suspects have been identified.
