LOCATION: Kiowa Road & Rancherias Road, Apple Valley

VICTIM(S):  22-year-old Female of Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): Luz Maria Rivas, 25-year-old Female of Apple Valley

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, June 15, 2023, at approximately 5:58 pm, deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department were dispatched to an injury traffic collision at Kiowa Road and Rancherias Road in the Town of Apple Valley.

Deputy Gabriel Dominguez arrived on scene and found two vehicles in the yard of a residence near the intersection. Deputy Dominguez recognized one of the drivers as Luz Maria Rivas, whom he had arrested the day prior for driving under the influence. Rivas was believed to be under the influence of the chemical substance, DUST-OFF.

The investigation showed Rivas failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and collided with another vehicle, causing both vehicles to come to a stop in the yard of the residence. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

Rivas was arrested for felony driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing injuries and was transported to High Desert Detention Center for housing. Rivas is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Deputy Dominguez at the Apple Valley Police Department at (760) 240-7400 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
