SMPD Police Explorers Take Home Awards from National Competition
The 2023 Explorer Competition was hosted in Las Vegas, NV this year and our San Mateo Police Explorers rose above the competition, bringing multiple awards home.
San Mateo, CA – Over the weekend of June 9, 2023, the San Mateo Police Department explorers attended the 2023 Explorer Competition (EXCON) in Las Vegas, NV. This competition was the national stage for police explorers to be evaluated on their training and compete against Police Explorer Programs across America. Our Explorer Post participated in several different police scenarios and, we are proud to say, they placed first in Exigent Circumstances, second place in Suspicious Situations and third place in Honor Guard. Congratulations to San Mateo for having such a great group of talented young people representing our city.
With the generous support of the San Mateo Police Activities League, our Explorer Program is strong and continues to grow. These young people are tomorrow’s heroes and we couldn’t be prouder to have them as part of the San Mateo Police community!
Our Police Explorer Program creates the potential for young adults to learn discipline, responsibility, leadership, character development, confidence, and it instills the importance of continuing their education. Police explorers are community service volunteers between the ages of 14 - 20 years old, who are interested in learning, training, and participating in a wide variety of law enforcement functions and activities.
