| The Moorpark Police Department is proud to announce a “Coffee with the Chief” event. Coffee with the Moorpark Police Chief and members of the Moorpark Police Station brings the police department and community members together, over coffee, to discuss issues and learn more about resources, services, and needs of the community. On Thursday, June 29th, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Moorpark deputies along with Moorpark Police Chief Darin Hendren, will be at Starbucks located at 561 New Los Angeles Ave, in the city of Moorpark, sharing a cup of coffee with neighbors. As an added bonus for this event, the Moorpark Police Department is partnering with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and REACH. Established in 1980, the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging has a commitment to older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caretakers. The agency is charged with promoting the development and implementation of a comprehensive system of care that enables people to safely, securely, and optimally age in place. Such programs include employment, health services, housing, in-home services, nutrition, senior centers, transportation, fall prevention, and Medicare benefits enrollment, as well as a variety of other services focused on caregivers and educational programs geared toward Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia-related issues. REACH is a local non-profit that runs the First Responders 4 Mental Health Initiative. This is a countywide initiative that works with First Responders to raise mental health awareness and funds for free mental health support groups, education, and advocacy work. Community trust is one of the key elements to the success of the Moorpark Police Department. By sitting down and having a simple conversation, deputies, and the community members they serve, can continue building and growing together. The Moorpark Police Department invites the community to come out and ask questions, voice concerns, get crime prevention advice, and get to know the deputies in your neighborhood, as well as meet representatives from the Area Agency on Aging and REACH. This is a relaxed, informal event and is not about speeches or agendas but simply about casual conversation. Moorpark Police Department staff will also have handouts explaining our Volunteers in Policing and Explorer programs, as well as scam and fraud prevention. The goal of Coffee with the Chief is to get to know the community better and hear about issues that are important to residents. This community-building event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie that make our neighborhoods safer. Building relationships – one cup at a time. |
