STATUS UPDATE ON DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY 
This is a friendly reminder to the community that we still do not have a certified police officer on island and cannot respond to law enforcement calls for services. Community Service Officer Merculieff can conduct patrols, respond to EMS calls, serve papers and cite individuals into Tribal Court for violations of Tribal ordinance. However, he cannot respond to calls that may be a violation of State law or involve incidents that put him in danger.
Zacarias (Zack) Nason our new EMT-3 is on island and is responding to EMS calls for service as the CIty has previously. Zack is a regular City employee and is currently driving the harbormaster truck until the parts arrive and installed on the Fire Rescue pickup. We are currently able to provide EMS services at the Basic Life Support level but will be upgrading to Advance Life Support level in the future.
City administation has an interview with a potential VPSO canadidate tomorrow. The tentative plan is to have a VPSO on island the first part of July and then a second VPSO on island in September of this year.
