This afternoon, the Denville Police Department was advised by the Morris County Park Commission that the Tourne County Park and trails will be closed until further notice.  This closure is a result of several reports about black bear displaying aggressive behavior towards park patrons, particularly dog owners who allow their pets off-leash.  There was one specific incident between a park patron and a sow protecting its three cubs.  The Morris County Sheriff's Patrol Unit will be monitoring the park during its closure.

The Denville Police ask that all residents and visitors abide by the closure for thier own safety until such time that the park is reopened.  Residents living in the area of the park should remain cautious when encountering or observing any black bear and immediately report any aggressive or unusual encounters to the police department at 973-627-4900 ext. 9, or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
