2. PETIT LARCENY (A- MISDEMEANOR) 3 COUNTS
ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Mercado was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters where he then was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On June 14th at approximately 3:41p.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a burglary that occurred at a residence on Glen Avenue in Amsterdam. Amsterdam patrol officers responded to the residence where they determined that a male suspect had forced entry into the residence and subsequently taken power tools from within. The male was then confronted by a resident and fled the area on foot prior to police arrival. Through investigation the male was later identified as Marcos A. Mercado.
On June 15th at approximately 9:09 a.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a larceny in progress at the Dollar General store on East Main Street. Amsterdam patrols responded to the store and canvassed the area as the suspect had fled prior to officer’s arrival. The male suspect had been observed inside the store placing items in his backpack and then left the store without paying. While reviewing surveillance footage officers identified the suspect as Marcos A. Mercado.
On June 15th at approximately 12:21 p.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a larceny from a local business on James Street. Patrols responded to the store and were advised that a male suspect had placed an item inside his backpack and left the store without paying. Upon review of the business video surveillance the suspect was identified as Marcos A. Mercado.
Approximately 1 hour later on June 15th with information developed through the investigation Amsterdam patrol officers located Mercado at a residence on East Main Street where he was taken into custody and transported to Amsterdam Police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
