INCIDENT: Assualt with a Deadly Weapon (firearm)
LOCATION: 7000 block of Pawnee Avenue, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT(S): Matthew Esquilbel, 44-year-old male resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): Elgin McBride, 58-year-old male resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station were dispatched to the 7000 block of Pawnee Avenue, in the town of Yucca Valley, for a report of an assualt with a deadly weapon. Deputies determined Matthew Esquilbel got into an arguement with a female while inside the residence. The female locked herself inside a bedroom and called Elgin McBride for help. During the telephone call, Esquibel attempted to access the bedroom by hitting the door with a shovel. Esquibel hit the door several times before the female unlocked the door. Esquibel attempted to grab her but she was able to make her way outside where she waited for McBride.
McBride arrived at the residence and Esquibel confronted him in the front yard. Esquibel produced a loaded semi-automatic handgun from his front pocket, and pointed it at McBride. McBride feared for his life and left the property with the female. McBride called 911 and reported the incident.
Deputies arrested Esquibel and served a search warrant at his residence. During the service of the search warrant, deputies located a black and gray semi-automatic pistol matching the gun used in the crime, along with an AR-15 rifle, shotgun, hunting rifle, magazines, ammunnition, and suspected narcotics.
Matthew Esquibel was booked into the Morongo Basin jail for Penal Code Section- 245(a)(2) - Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is being held in lieu of $40,000.00 bail.
