El Cerrito Police Blotter from June 10th to June 16th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from June 10th to June 16th.
 
June 10th

Vehicle Burglary – Ashbury Ave / Lincoln Ave:
At 10:41 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the window of a 2019 BMW and stole a backpack containing a wallet and cash.  The theft occurred between 9:39 – 9:45 AM.

Tampering with a Vehicle- 10200 Block of San Pablo Ave:
At 6:44 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed the driver’s door window of the victim’s vehicle and rifled through the vehicle. The incident occurred between 5:30 and 5:40 PM. No loss was reported.

Vandalism- 6021 Central Ave (Burger King):
At 11:36 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged four windows at the business with a BB gun.

June 11th

Vandalism – 6900 block of Central Ave:
At 10:31 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the driver's window of a 2006 Honda vehicle.  The interior appeared undisturbed.  Occurred sometime overnight.

Battery- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 7:07 PM, an officer reports two customers got into a verbal altercation over accidentally making contact with a shopping cart. During the altercation, the suspect pushed/punched the victims.

June 12th

Trespass – 11344 San Pablo Ave (Denny’s):
At 6:24 AM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a man who was camped out in a booth at Denny’s overnight.  The man was asked several times to leave by Denny’s staff and officers, and repeatedly refused.  The man was transported directly to county jail.

Vehicle Theft – 10057 San Pablo Ave (Pastime Ace Hardware):
At 10:35 AM, an officer reports the theft of a green 2000 Honda CR-V on 6/5/2023, between 0700-1700 hours. The owner did not immediately report the theft because he believed the vehicle may have been towed by the business.

Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 1:12 PM, an officer reports two unidentified suspects stole $400 worth of merchandise and fled in an unknown direction.

Petty Theft- IFO 10780 San Pablo Ave:
At 6:30 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s bicycle that was locked IFO a business.

Battery- 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness):
At 9:39 PM, an officer reports the victims were walking to the business when the suspect punched them from behind. Upon arrival of officers, the victims pointed out the suspect who was walking across the street. Officers detained the suspect, and he was placed under Citizen’s Arrest by the victims. After booking, the suspect was released on a citation.

June 13th

Stolen Vehicle – 400 block of Liberty St.
At 9:23 AM the victim reported that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway last night.

Stolen Vehicle – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.
The victim came to the PD to report their vehicle was stolen from June 12th at 4 PM to June 13th at 7:47 AM.

Vandalism – 7000 El Cerrito Plaza (Daiso)
An unknown suspect shattered a window to the business, with an unknown object.  The incident occurred from June 12th at 9 PM to June 13th at 9:20 AM.  

Stolen Vehicle – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway)
The victim’s vehicle was stolen today from 6 AM to 2 PM.

Strong Armed Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens)
At 3:56 PM, when the employee retrieved a pack of cigarettes from the display shelf, the suspect pulled the employee's arm, grabbed the pack of cigarettes from them, and fled the store. 

Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketchers)
At 4:32 PM a suspect stole several pairs of shoes and fled on foot towards San Pablo Ave.

June 14th

Vandalism – 500 block of Kearney St.
At 7:46 AM an unknown suspect threw a large cinder block and broke off the driver’s side view mirror to the victim’s parked vehicle.

June 15th

Attempted Stolen Vehicle – 6000 block of Avila St.
The suspect broke into the victim’s vehicle and drilled the ignition in an attempt to steal it.  The incident occurred from 11 PM last night to 8 AM this morning.   

Stolen Vehicles Recovered – School Ave at S 53rd.
At 8:42 AM officers were dispatched to two unoccupied suspicious vehicles parked in the area.  Officers located a vehicle that was reported stolen to Berkeley PD on 6-10-23 and another vehicle reported stolen to Oakland PD on 6-14-23.  Both vehicles were towed for storage and the owners were contacted.

June 16th

Grand Theft / Trespass / Probation Violation – 600 block of Everett St:
At 7:03 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a 58-year-old Berkeley man after he removed a bicycle from the backyard of the residence and the homeowner caught him removing a second bike from the backyard shed. The combined value of the bikes was over $1000.  Direct transport to county jail.

Grand Theft – 6800 Tahoe Pl:
At 7:50 AM, an officer took a report of another bicycle theft.  The same suspect from the above case was captured on video stealing a grey bike valued at $1000.  This was the same bike he arrived on when he committed the above theft on Everett St.  The bicycle was returned to the owner.

Fraud – 10422 San Pablo Ave (Bank of America):
At 3:40 PM, an officer reports Bank of America collected a skimmer and camera combo off one of the ATMs.
