Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Compton area
The City of Wyoming has issued a boil water advisory due to the work on Compton Road for homes on the following streets until Wednesday at 3 pm: Compton Road east of Hidden Valley, Mt. Pleasant from Compton to Pleasant Hill (including 212 Mt. Pleasant), Pleasant Hill, Wyoming Woods, Ridgeview, Compton Ridge, Ardon, Brocdorf, & Woodknoll.
Below are the instructions residents may follow in a boil water advisory:
- Bring all water to a boil, let it boil vigorously for at least one minute, and let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation (including baby formula). In addition:
- Adults and teens can use water for bathing, but should be careful not to swallow water.
- Wash clothes as you normally do. Make sure to flush internal plumbing before washing clothes due to the possibility of discolored water
- Only use your dishwasher if there is a high temperature cycle.
- After a Boil Water Advisory is lifted, be sure to flush house pipes, ice makers, hot water heaters, water softeners, and garden hoses thoroughly. Change filters before using water for drinking and cooking.
- If you have a filter, contact the manufacturer for more information.
Water main breaks may cause disruptions in water quality including air, discolored water, and/or potentially a temporary increase in lead levels in drinking water. Therefore, Wyoming Water Works recommends that property owners in the main break shutdown area also flush their internal plumbing fixtures. We recommend that you flush your service line from an outside faucet first until it clears up. Then, proceed to flush all inside faucets or fixtures. This entire procedure should take no more than 5-10 minutes, depending on the number of fixtures. We also recommend refraining from washing laundry within 24 hours of the repair.
As a standard practice, the USEPA recommends the following actions to reduce possible lead exposure in drinking water as there are potentially a few lead lines in the area:
- If water has not been used for several hours, run the tap until there is a noticeable temperature drop. Then, run water for 30 seconds to 3 minutes before using it for drinking and cooking. This helps flush water that may have contained lead that may have leached from plumbing.
- Boiling the water will not reduce potential lead. In addition to boiling, flush as described above before ingesting.
- Clean your faucet aerator regularly.
