Narrative:
Two subjects were treated for being assaulted with a caustic chemical.

On 06/25/2023, at approximately 2:05 p.m., deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Avenida De Los Arboles reference a subject armed with a knife and throwing caustic chemicals on an employee at a local restaurant. During the patrol deputies’ initial investigation, they learned the suspect, Robert Haight entered the business and, unprovoked, squirted lighter fluid on an employee and attempted to ignite the employee on fire. Haight then grabbed a large kitchen knife and chased the employee through the business. The employee fled the business through a rear back door.

Subsequently, Haight followed the employee out of the business to the rear parking lot. Haight was confronted by a second victim, who attempted to intervene. Haight then turned his attention to the second victim and assaulted him, by squirting lighter fluid on him. The second victim successfully defended himself and fought off Haight. Shortly after the second attack, patrol deputies arrived on scene and took Haight into custody without incident. Haight was transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries he sustained during his assault of the two victims.

East County Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and handled the investigations. Haight was arrested for one count of 664/187(a) PC – Attempted Murder, one count of 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two counts of 244 PC – Assault with Caustic Chemical. Haight’s bail was set at $500,000.00.
