CAER Siren Test
Please be advised that the first test of the upgraded Brazosport CAER (Community Awareness and Emergency Response) siren system will take place on Monday, July 10 at 12:10 p.m. During this test, the sirens will sound for up to three (3) minutes, in accordance with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) guidelines. This is only a test and no action is required.
The CAER siren system has recently been upgraded to newer technology. The CAER sirens will have a different sound, cover a broader area, and may be heard by community members who have not heard them before. Their purpose is to inform the community if an industrial event requiring action takes place. The safety of our communities is of the utmost importance to CAER and BCPC member companies.
This test is an important part of our community’s emergency notification system and is necessary confirm that the sirens will work as expected if an emergency were to occur. To hear an audio clip of the sirens, visit https://www.brazosportcaer.com.
Every Monday following this test, the sirens will be tested at 12:10 p.m. for approximately 60 seconds. If you hear sirens at any other time, please shelter in place as a precaution and contact CAER at 979-238-2237.
The CAER sirens are one of the tools CAER member companies can use to notify community members of an industrial incident requiring action. CAER companies may also utilize the IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert and Warning) system to issue an alert via cell phones to an affected area. There is no sign-up required; messages are automatically geotargeted to all cell phones in a specified area. The Code Red system is another automated alert system; however, it requires individuals to sign up. Visit brazosportcaer.com for more information.
