On Thursday, June 22nd, 2023, during a probation compliance check, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a probationer hiding inside a residence. The probationer, Gabriel Gurion, was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and was discovered to be in possession of a firearm, a violation of his probationary conditions.
Upon entering the residence, deputies discovered Gurion hiding in a bedroom of the house.  During a search of the premises, deputies located and confiscated two shotguns, violating his probationary terms.  He was taken into custody without further incident.
As part of law enforcement's commitment to maintaining public safety, the Sheriff's Office and Probation Department conducts routine compliance checks to ensure that probationers adhere to their probation conditions. These checks are essential for monitoring and holding individuals accountable as a condition of release from custody.
Gabriel Gurion, age 25 and resident of West Point, was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of violating probation terms, delaying the investigation, and possessing firearms as a prohibited person.
The arrest resulted from a combined effort between Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department. The Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department maintain a zero-tolerance policy for these violations, and incidents such as these ensure that probationers comply with their court-ordered obligations. The investigation into this case is ongoing.
