On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at approximately 10:35 a.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a call of a suspicious package located in the area of Lancaster Drive and Lanyard Court East. Officers quickly arrived in the area and located a box, with a metal pole attached to it, sitting on the sidewalk.
Because the contents of the box were unknown and its appearance was out of the ordinary, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was requested to respond and evaluate the box. Out of an abundance of caution, area residents were advised to shelter in place and surrounding streets were closed for approximately three hours.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad Technicians arrived and evaluated the box using a robot (see photo). At approximately 1:25 p.m., the box was deemed safe and removed from the area. Additionally, it was determined the box did not contain any explosive devices.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this call for service is asked to contact the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety at 707-584-2600 and refer to Case #23-2287.
