The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued the following Air Quality Alert for today until Midnight tonight.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties:
Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union.
until midnight EDT tonight.
An Air Quality Action Day means that Fine Particulates within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
An Air Quality Action Day for Particulate Matter (PM2.5) has been declared for Friday, June30, 2023. Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors.
Levels of fine particulates will remain elevated in the unhealthy for sensitive groups category statewide on Friday due to residual Canadian wildfire smoke.

- We recommend you take the following steps:
- Stay inside, if possible, particularly if you have respiratory concerns or other health problems, are a senior or child.
- If you must go out, try to limit the amount of time you are out to strictly essential activities.
- Minimize your use of items that increase pollution, such as cars, gas powered lawn mowers and other vehicles.
- If you feel the need to wear a mask, only an N95 mask will protect you from the particulates in the air. A cloth or surgical mask will not work.
