The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh NC has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates for Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, Madison, Buncombe, Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, Rutherford, Polk, Alexander, Catawba, Iredell, Rowan, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, and Union Counties, until midnight EDT Friday night. A Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Ground Level Ozone is also in effect until 8 pm EDT this evening for Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, and Union counties the North Carolina Piedmont. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone and Fine Particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
