Advisory

REMINDER - Package Theft Prevention

The Albany Police Department at times receives reports from members of our community who have had delivered items stolen from their porches or homes.

First and foremost, if you believe someone is stealing packages or if you become the victim of package theft, please call the Albany Police.
Knowing when and where packages are being stolen helps us in our investigation and overall efforts to identify and arrest thieves.

You can always call South Station at 518-462-8049 or Center Station at 518-458-5660.

In addition, we just wanted to take a moment to remind our community about ways to prevent package thefts:

1 - Schedule your delivery. This will help ensure you're home and can personally take possession of it when it arrives.

2 - Not going to be able to be home? Connect with a neighbor and check to see if they can grab a package for you.

3 - Consider a home security system. Not only will a security system serve as a deterrent, it will often alert police in the event of an incident. Also, consider cameras which also can serve as a deterrent and assist police during their investigation.

4 -  If you're unable to be home for a delivery, have your package sent to an alternate location. Have it sent to a neighbors home who can retrieve it for you, the post office, store or any other location where someone you trust can take possession.

5 - Sign up for tracking alerts. Knowing where your package is and when it's scheduled to be delivered will help you plan.

6 - Consider insuring your purchase. While there may be additional cost, insurance may offer coverage for lost, damaged or stolen packages.
