INCIDENT: Traffic Collision with Rollover
LOCATION: State Route 62/ Mariposa Avenue, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277
DRIVER 1: Jeffrey Proff, 63-years-old, Resident of Twentynine Palms
DRIVER 2: Marco Loza, 67-years-old, Resident of Twentynine Palms
SUMMARY: On Thursday, June 29, 2023, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Morongo Basin Station, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and personnel from the Morongo Basin Ambulance responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of State Route 62 and Mariposa Avenue in Twentynine Palms.
Through investigation, deputies learned that 63-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, Jeffrey Proff, was driving westbound on State Route 62. Proff attempted to turn south onto Mariposa Avenue. As Proff crossed the double-yellow lines, he went into oncoming traffic. Proff ultimately side-swiped a vehicle driven by 67-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, Marco Loza, causing Loza's vehicle to roll twice on the highway.
Loza and his wife Albertina Torres-Hernandez were both transported to High Desert Medical Center for a complaint of chest and body pain.
