* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southern Alamance County in central North Carolina... Orange County in central North Carolina... Northeastern Randolph County in central North Carolina... Southeastern Guilford County in central North Carolina... Western Durham County in central North Carolina... Northern Chatham County in central North Carolina...

* Until 545 PM EDT.

* At 454 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Prospect Hill to near Mebane to 13 miles northeast of Randleman, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* Locations impacted include... Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Siler City, Carrboro, Mebane, Liberty, Swepsonville and Staley.

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh.
