The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued the following Air Quality Alert for today, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 until 11:00 PM tonight.
...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties:
Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union
until 11 PM EDT this evening.
An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Sensitive individuals, including the very young, the elderly, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Additionally, fine particulate levels will remain in the moderate category statewide as elevated humidity and light winds persist.

- We recommend you take the following steps.
- Stay inside, if possible, particularly if you have respiratory concerns or other health problems, are a senior or child.
- If you must go out, try to limit the amount of time you are out to strictly essential activities.
- Minimize your use of items that increase pollution, such as cars, gas powered lawn mowers and other vehicles.
- If you feel the need to wear a mask, only an N95 mask will protect you from the particulates in the air. A cloth or surgical mask will not work.
