Wanted Suspect Apprehended in San Andreas After Fleeing Authorities
On Sunday, June 25th, at about 2:00 pm, a wanted suspect sought on an outstanding warrant and led law enforcement officers on a short pursuit through the town of San Andreas. The pursuit concluded when the suspect surrendered to law enforcement officials in the California Highway Patrol San Andreas Office parking lot.
Deputies with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit when they identified the suspect, 38-year-old Michael Wilmshurst of San Andreas, traveling through San Andreas. Known to the deputies to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Wilmshurst refused to yield and instead pulled into a private property on Gold Strike Road, where he met a dead end and became contained. He refused to surrender and instead drove recklessly through the property, striking parked vehicles, before returning to the roadway. He accelerated away, leading deputies on a chase through San Andreas and eventually into the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol San Andreas Office, where a short standoff occurred. Law enforcement officers with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol Office talked Wilmshurst into a peaceful surrender, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Wilmshurst was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of felony evasion, resisting, and the outstanding felony warrant.
