July 4th, 2023, was another busy night for the Gilroy Police Department. GPD again deployed 12 additional officers who were dedicated to enforcing fireworks violations. The additional officers were funded by mitigation fees that are added to legal fireworks sales in Gilroy. Officers patrolled in both marked patrol cars and undercover vehicles. Officers also used drones to identify firework violations. As a result, officers issued numerous citations and confiscated several illegal fireworks (photo attached.)
July 4th Calls for Service:
Officers handled a total of 382 incidents. 112 of those calls were fireworks related.
July 4th Enforcement:
3 criminal citations were issued for fireworks violations.
30 administrative citations were issued for fireworks violations.
